Get Connected

Teachers, coaches, administrators, mentors, community leaders, and peers

OneStep encourages youth to #GetConnected to caring adults and friends for support and guidance. We define #GetConnected as youth engaging with caring adults and peers in their school and community that positively influence them to make healthy choices.

Youth Connection Services

New Haven Pride Center

The Center fosters a welcoming environment where everyone is celebrated for who they are. We offer the LGBTQ communities of NYC advocacy, health and wellness programs; arts, entertainment and cultural events; recovery, parenthood and family support services.

Youth Women Empowered (Y-WE)

Young Women Empowered cultivates the power of diverse young women* to be creative leaders and courageous changemakers through transformative programs within a collaborative community of belonging.

Believe In Me Empowerment Corporation (BIMEC)

BIMEC is dedicated to improving the lives of youth, young adults and their families. We work towards this mission through direct and indirect programming which provides housing, life skills, and counseling services for our program participants. The agency provides hope and opportunities through services that support our client base in order to reach their full potential and become productive citizens.

Youth Continuum

Youth Continuum prevents and addresses youth homelessness. We are a community-based, not-for-profit agency serving youth ages 14-24 who are homeless or in state care – two groups often described as ‘disconnected’ and who face great challenges in transitioning to successful adulthood. We are committed to helping them fulfill their abilities and improve self-esteem through concrete academic and vocational successes and long-term personal interests. Our efforts result in a more educated, employable and healthy youth population

The Yale Hunger and Homelessness Action Project (YHHAP)

A student organization using education and action to alleviate housing and food insecurity in New Haven, Connecticut. Not-for-profit, we use our direct service, community involvement, and advocacy efforts to address root causes and to support immediate and long-term solutions for local food and housing deprivation.

The best way to become engaged in YHHAP and New Haven is to join a YHHAP Project. Projects range from food collection to case management, clothing distribution to tax preparation. Most do not require an application, and all are always excited to welcome new volunteers. See the projects page for ideas.

Leadership, Education and Athletics in Partnership (LEAP)

LEAP Junior Counselors must be New Haven high school students 16 years or older. In addition to working with children, you are required to participate in your own development including college prep, SAT classes, and tutoring when needed. Junior Counselors (JCs) are high school students who are paid members of the LEAP staff, and each work under the supervision of a Senior Counselor who guides and mentors them. LEAP employs approximately 100 JCs each year, full-time during the summer and part-time during the school year. Our JCs also receive resources such as professional development, financial literacy workshops, and academic coaching. Our goal is to prepare our young adults for successful futures, and part of this is ensuring that they can pursue higher education. LEAP also awards $13,000 worth of scholarships to our JCs entering college, rewarding them for their dedication and service to our LEAP community.

New Haven YMCA Youth Center

The New Haven YMCA Youth Center provides child care, recreation and learning opportunities for youth from age 3 to 23. We offer a full day NAEYC accredited preschool program for 3 and 4-year-olds; an afterschool care program for children between 5-12; and for our older youth, we offer a walk-in program for recreation, open basketball, and support.

New Haven Boys and Girls Club

The Club is a place to explore and dream BIG. It is a place to have fun and just be ourselves, but it’s so much more than that. Explore music, dance, sports, computers, art or just hang out with your friends. Try new things and discover what you love. Take steps towards the future you want to create and get help with school work. The Club opens doors to get you where you want to go. Get support in person or tutoring online. Slots are available from 8am-5:30pm. Whether you do two hours or a whole day, you will make a difference.

New Haven Youth Services Deptartment

The City of New Haven Youth Services Department [YSD] seeks to ensure that all New Haven youth are aware and have access to positive opportunities to meet their basic needs to [1] be safe, cared for, valued and independent; and [2] build skills and competencies that will allow them to thrive and contribute to society.
